Bermagui

Bermagui is a vibrant coastal town at the southern end of the Eurobodalla Shire, where Wallaga Lake meets the Tasman Sea. It is best known as one of the premier big game fishing destinations on the east coast of Australia — the deep water off the continental shelf is accessible within a short run from Bermagui Harbour, making it a magnet for anglers chasing blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, and broadbill swordfish. The annual Bermagui Tuna Classic and other fishing tournaments draw competitors from across the country.

Beyond fishing, Bermagui offers some of the most attractive coastal scenery in the region. The Blue Pool — a natural rock pool carved into the ocean headland — is one of the town’s most celebrated features, offering protected saltwater swimming with dramatic views of the open sea. Bermagui’s headlands and beaches, including Horseshoe Bay and Camel Rock, are popular for surfing, swimming, and coastal walks. The town also has a strong arts and crafts community, with galleries, studios, and local makers contributing to a creative culture that flourishes alongside the fishing identity. The Australian poet and author Henry Lawson spent time in the Bermagui district in the 1890s and was captivated by the coastal landscape.
