Code of Conduct for School Students on Buses

It is every student’s responsibility to behave in a manner that ensures the safety of other students and does not distract the bus driver as set by Transport for NSW.

CORRECT Behaviour:

  • FOLLOW BUS DRIVER INSTRUCTION
  • Practice common sense and respect bus property.
  • Use appropriate language which is not offensive.
  • Stay in your seat and face forward.
  • Seat belts must be worn.

NOT Permitted:

  • Fighting, swearing, distracting noises, spitting, hitting, kicking, shoving, or pushing. (Unnecessary physical touch.)
  • Feet on seats / Damage to bus property.
  • Throwing items in or out of the bus.
  • Back chatting with the bus driver.
  • Bullying other students or the bus driver. Including: Photographing / Displaying content on a device / Verbally / Participating in activities; that may be deemed inappropriate or of a sexual nature. Racist / hate speech.
  • Chew gum, smoke, drink, or eat food.
  • Play loud music from devices.
  • Prohibited / Dangerous objects.

Please Note: If student misbehaviour is a severe breach of Conduct:
– School, Parents / Police may need to be contacted.
– Instant suspension of subsidised school bus travel may occur.

If the code of conduct set out by TNSW is not followed:
Student will be written in the office misbehaviour book at the bus company.

Students have 2 behaviour warnings/chances. (Dependent on severity)
On 3rd warning: Student will be given an INTERIM PASS:
– Student will sit at the front of the bus for 5 days to monitor behaviour.
– Parents will be contacted (if updated details are provided) & students will be recorded in TNSW Student Misbehaviour database.

If behaviour does not improve:
Student will have their subsidised bus travel withdrawn for a period of time / permanently, dependent on the severity of misconduct.

When travelling between home and school, students must adhere to various regulations regarding passenger behaviour and the codes of conduct for travel using public transport.
